With the passing of the Beastie Boys MCA earlier today I can’t help thinking of my youth. As a white kid growing up in the dull boredom of suburban entertainment, the Beasties’ were an oasis of cool. I was 10 when I bought License to Ill on cassette. It changed my world. I bought my first hardcore tape because of them, they turned me onto Biz Markie and Eric B & Rakim, they fit seamlessly into the world of skateboarding which I had already been getting into and they taught me how to walk, talk, dress & party. I probably bought my first pair of chuck taylor’s because of them. The Beasties ruled my world for a few amazing moments on this planet. Now, the Universe just doesn’t seem as cool with one of my heros gone….Love You, Brother & Stay Ill!
